Hazard

In vehicles equipped with 4-bag air spring suspension systems, the V-rod that secures the rear axle to the frame has insufficient fastening strength on the ball joint mounting nut connecting to the axle. Under lateral loads during vehicle cornering and similar conditions, this nut may loosen. If operation continues in this state, the nut can detach, causing the V-rod and axle to separate, which impairs steering stability. In the worst case, the axle can shift laterally, causing contact between the shock absorber and tire/wheel components, leading to shock absorber oil leakage, ignition, and potential fire. (This notice supersedes recall notification No. 1234 filed on September 22, 2004, as the previous corrective measures were found insufficient. Corrective measures and affected vehicle range have been reviewed and are being reapplied.)

4バック式空気ばね緩衝装置付車両の後車軸を車枠に固定するVロッドにおいて、車軸との間のボールジョイント取付けナットの締結強度が不足しているため、車両旋回時等の横荷重により、当該ナットが緩むものがある。そのため、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、当該ナットが脱落し、Vロッドと車軸が外れて操縦安定性が損なわれ、最悪の場合、車軸が横方向にずれて、タイヤ、ホイール等とショックアブソーバが接触し、ショックアブソーバのオイルが漏れ引火して、火災に至るおそれがある。 (本届出は、平成16年9月22日に届け出たリコール「届出番号1234」の対策が不十分であったため、対策内容及び対象範囲を見直し、再度対策を実施するものである。)

Remedy

All vehicles will have the V-rod assembly replaced with the corrective parts and a cover installed for detachment prevention. Due to extended lead time for full supply of corrective parts, an interim measure will initially involve replacement with new V-rods (with increased ball joint fastening nut tightness), followed by replacement with corrective parts at a later date.
