An improperly sized diaphragm was installed in the accelerator pump chamber of the carburetor. When the diaphragm swells due to the carburetor and diaphragm combination, internal stress within the diaphragm becomes excessive and may cause rupture. Continued use may result in fuel leakage from the boot section at the top of the accelerator pump rod. (Note: This recall addresses vehicles that received an improper diaphragm during the remedial measures of recall number 967 issued on July 31, 2003, and these vehicles are now included in this recall.)
