In large bus engines, insufficient design review may cause the following defects: (1) When the starter operates, if pinion gear and ring gear meshing failure occurs, motor drive current continues to flow to the coil side without passing through the main switch contacts. If the coil sustains thermal damage, the starter becomes inoperative and engine starting is impossible. (2) DPF clogging or oxidation catalyst efficiency degradation may be incorrectly detected. This causes engine output to be limited, a DPF regeneration unavailable warning to display, and the engine warning light to illuminate at the next engine start.
