(1) Rear brake calipers have insufficient seal performance in the parking brake actuating shaft boot, allowing water ingress and shaft corrosion. Continued use may result in corrosion progressing into the caliper, obstructing shaft rotation, reducing parking brake holding force, and in worst case, causing the parked vehicle to move. (2) Rear brake calipers contain out-of-specification parts due to manufacturing inspection defects. The automatic gap adjustment mechanism between brake pad and disc may not function. As pad wear progresses without automatic adjustment, parking brake holding force decreases, and in worst case, the parked vehicle may move.
